The One About Being a Whiny Brat

I'll be honest and say that there are about 5 blogs that I read every single day. As in type in the URL and visit without fail. But there are tons more that I love - I just don't have the time to read or to comment on every single day. Some of the people that I started out loving have changed genres or have stopped posting as much or whatever.

I recently had a conversation with a book blogger friend about getting comments. I'm a tiny fish in the huge book blogger pond so I get very few comments. She gets a few more than I do but she is on the blogs like I used to be...she leaves 20 to 30 comments a day on her favorite blogs. I have a few people that consistently comment but not many. So when we got to talking about comments, we were thinking about those blogs that we leave comments on that NEVER reciprocate.

I was trying to think of blogs that I've stopped reading because I never got any interaction and I realized that there were bloggers that I followed that I've since stopped following...not sure that it was specifically because they never commented on my blog though.

So for those of you who have ever commented here, I'm curious....do you even notice if you comment a ton on another person's blog but they never do on yours or is that being a whiny brat?

  1. The book blogging community is a strange one with the whole returned comment system. I return them when I can and when I find a post that inspires me to comment, but otherwise stick to the posts by the fairly small group of bloggers I follow.

I do notice which bloggers never return comments, but it won't stop me from commenting on their blog if I really love it. Might make the difference between following and not, but it really comes down to whether I love the content. I want people to comment on my blog not for the comment back but because they enjoy my content, so I'm not going to comment only on blogs where the blogger comments back, because that would be a double standard. *shrugs*

The lack of comments can sometimes be frustrating, and November is rough because so many bloggers do Nano.

    1. I love interaction and try to comment on my favorites but sometimes I just don't have anything to say and I don't want to just say "Great review, again, Christina!"...you know? Can be such an interesting discussion with the way people think about comments.

  2. Sometimes I do notice. Sometimes I care and sometimes I don't. If the content is something I really enjoy I'll keep commenting largely out of habit, maybe? I've recently re-organized the blogs in my Feedly to reflect the group of bloggers who ALWAYS comment on my blog, then a slightly larger group of faves, and finally "all the rest." I comment as much as I can, and on the posts that interest me the most.

    1. It's interesting how different people think about commenting. I know people who never comment on anyone's blogs and others who comment all the time on tons. Your system is similar to the one that I have. I want to read the people who interact with me the most. I have my favorites, of course, those 5 that I check every day (and I won't mention any names...(you)...because that wouldn't be fair :-) Bwahaha. But seriously, so interesting to see the different perspectives.

  3. I do notice! I have kind of been trying to keep track, kind of for curiosity's sake and kind of because I'm a brat, ha! I used to add people to Bloglovin in groups of how I found them, like ABEA, Top Ten Tuesday, Follow Friday. Then I just put blogs I interacted with more in a group of their own. Then I kind of started noticing that some people never seem to care or respond, and now I have them in groups of how likely they are to respond. However, a lot are in "maybe," because sometimes I'm not as observant and stuff. There are a few in "no," and they are people I feel like don't really care about my input, if that makes sense. Maybe it's a personal thing for them, or something, but sometimes it seems like they skip over my interactions? I usually treat the groups as a priority system, and I still look at the blogs of people who don't really comment back, but I only comment if I feel like I have something to say, and if I don't have time for it, I don't stress about it.

So, I do notice. I try not to care too much about it. I really like getting comments, but I know people get busy and my posts aren't actually that awesome so people might not have anything to say in response to them, ha. Sometimes it influences my commenting practices, but not always? But I don't think you're alone in that at all!

    1. I really enjoyed the conversation I had with her because it made me realize that there are so many ways to look at it. One of my favorite bloggers has NEVER commented on my blog but I still love her. I had one person who used to comment all the time but stopped because I never commented back. The problem was that we didn't read any of the same books and I just didn't know what to say. :-)

  4. Sometimes I do notice, but it doesn't withold me from visiting them. But when I get the idea that my comments doesn't really matter, I sometimes stop visiting them despite their good content.. Perhaps it's a bit egoistical, but I put a lot of time and effort in commenting - so I at least want to feel appreciated :)

    1. Mel! You are here but you're not back on your blog yet? No luck with the laptop? I miss you!

That's a great way to look at it because it does take time and effort to comment. I was just curious on everyone's opinion after my conversation with her.

  5. I read a little more than five books, though sometimes I only have time to visit and comment on them once a week, but yes, some (both big and not so big) bloggers never comment back. I don't always stop following those blogs, but if they don't even reply to my comments once in a while, I stop commenting. No one likes to feel ignored.

    1. Those are my main ones but I have about 150 book related ones in my reader. I just don't spend time on the blogs like I used to...though I wish I could. Too true about not wanting to be ignored. I try really hard to reply to every comment left here but understand that those who gets tons on their blogs probably can't. Still, it is all about the interaction with me. That's my favorite part of having a blog.

Comments make my book nerd heart so very happy. Thanks for dropping by my blog and taking the time to interact with me. I love to talk books with other bookish people!
