ARC Envy #24 - Wonder Woman by Leigh Bardugo

Every week several of my favorite bloggers post vlogs or whatever of all the great book hauls they've received for the week. Since I'm a tiny little fish in the huge book blogging pond, my mailbox isn't stuffed with all the great ARCs that they get. Dana's ARC Envy is my way of highlighting an ARC that I *wish* had been sent to me too.

Title: Wonder Woman: Warbringer
Author: Leigh Bardugo
Expected Publication Date: August 29, 2017

Judging a book by its cover:  Not bad!

Know anything about the author?  One of my favorite authors ever.

Why do I want it?  Leigh Bardugo. Enough said.

Summary from Goodreads:

She will become one of the world’s greatest heroes: WONDER WOMAN. But first she is Diana, Princess of the Amazons. And her fight is just beginning. . . .

Diana longs to prove herself to her legendary warrior sisters. But when the opportunity finally comes, she throws away her chance at glory and breaks Amazon law—risking exile—to save a mere mortal. Even worse, Alia Keralis is no ordinary girl and with this single brave act, Diana may have doomed the world.

Alia just wanted to escape her overprotective brother with a semester at sea. She doesn’t know she is being hunted. When a bomb detonates aboard her ship, Alia is rescued by a mysterious girl of extraordinary strength and forced to confront a horrible truth: Alia is a Warbringer—a direct descendant of the infamous Helen of Troy, fated to bring about an age of bloodshed and misery.

Together, Diana and Alia will face an army of enemies—mortal and divine—determined to either destroy or possess the Warbringer. If they have any hope of saving both their worlds, they will have to stand side by side against the tide of war.

Bout of Books Daily Update Posts

Rather than make individual posts about my daily totals, I will update this post each day.

Day 7
I FINALLY finished! I am still processing whether or not I even liked that long winded saga but at least I finished it within the week. Thank goodness.

Day 6
Read up to page 617 yesterday. Hoping that I will be able to finish Voyager today before the readathon ends. If I finish this one, I'll be satisfied with my reading for the week.

Day 5
Made it to page 372 before I got too sleepy to continue in Voyager. I cannot believe that Bout of Books is winding down so quickly!

Day 4
Read to page 237 in Voyager. Yay! Slow going because of the dialect but I'm enjoying the story very much and can't wait for season 3 of the show.

Day 3
Read up to page 119 in Voyager. Not sure what my deal is this go round. Too much stuff with back to school I guess. Pleased that I am getting in reading at all though!

Day 2
Decided to concentrate on just Voyager and read about 70 pages. Not bad considering it was my boy's birthday and I didn't have a chance to read much!

Day 1
Epic fail. I chunked up both Voyager and It in order to make it easier to read them within the timelines that I wanted and I failed big time on both yesterday. Eclipse doughnuts at Krispy Kreme with my bestie followed by eclipse viewing with both besties followed by my boy's last kids skate free skate equaled no reading for most of the day. I read about 10 pages yesterday morning.

Bout of Books 20 - Goals Post

Bout of Books 20 begins today! I have a pretty lofty goal for this go round - I want to read Voyager over the 7 days, read 3 other books and read chunks of It. The two on my TBR so far are Starfall and A Taste for Monsters. If I finish both of those, I will pick the third one then. I have It chunked over the next month and will read my daily pages towards the readathon but will not finish it before it is over. If I read all of Voyager I will be thrilled with my readathon reading!

ARC Envy #23 - They All Die at the End by Adam Silvera

Every week several of my favorite bloggers post vlogs or whatever of all the great book hauls they've received for the week. Since I'm a tiny little fish in the huge book blogging pond, my mailbox isn't stuffed with all the great ARCs that they get. Dana's ARC Envy is my way of highlighting an ARC that I *wish* had been sent to me too.

Title: They Both Die at the End
Author: Adam Silvera
Expected Publication Date: September 5, 2017

Judging a book by its cover:  I like it!

Know anything about the author?  I have a love/hate relationship with Silvera's books.

Why do I want it?  See above. That love/hate relationship thing makes me want to try another one.

Summary from Goodreads:

On September 5, a little after midnight, Death-Cast calls Mateo Torrez and Rufus Emeterio to give them some bad news: They're going to die today. Mateo and Rufus are total strangers, but, for different reasons, they're both looking to make a new friend on their End Day. The good news: There's an app for that. It's called the Last Friend, and through it, Rufus and Mateo are about to meet up for one last great adventure and to live a lifetime in a single day

Currently reading

Currently reading:

Started reading this one because the HBO mini-series was so good. I generally read a book before I watch a tv show/movie/mini-series based on but I got hooked and couldn't stop watching to read it first.

I really enjoyed the first book in this dualogy so I am unsure why I haven't read this one already! Victoria Schwab is one of my most favorite authors and I've loved everything of hers that I've read.

Library Loot - August 15th

Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Claire from The Captive Reader and Linda from Silly Little Mischief that encourages bloggers to share the books they've checked out from the library. If you’d like to participate, just write up your post-feel free to steal the button-and link it using the Mr. Linky any time during the week. And of course check out what other participants are getting from their libraries.

I checked out:

So I totally failed at #TomeTopple. I returned Strange the Dreamer because the writing is so rich that I wanted to read it without rushing. Since I wanted to at least try to participate in Tome Topple, I decided to read something else. Didn't happen. I started 2 books that didn't count. Currently reading both Big Little Lies and Our Dark Duet

Voyager is the 3rd book in the series. I never read books out of order but I'm skipping the first two because I tried to read the first book again and know that there is NO WAY that I am going to read the first three before season 3 comes out. Since I know the story, I am not as worried about reading them out of order.

I also checked out Big Little Lies because I love so in love with the HBO series. I am still processing this show. So good!

UPDATES FROM LAST WEEK:

Strange the Dreamer is for the #TomeTopple readathon.  Returned because the writing deserves reading at a slower pace than I wanted to read it. Getting this one again very soon.

Why yes I do own 2 copies of Outlander but I checked this out of the library anyway because I saw it. Don't judge me. Another one for #TomeTopple readathon.  Returned and am going to skip to the 3rd one to be current with the series. Gasp!

This book about Sue the TRex is for the boys as well obvi. My friend's stepfather gave us tickets to a huge dinosaur show. The tour guide told us about Sue so we looked for more info. Reading with the boys. Love this book!

Starflight got me out of my reading slump so I can't wait to continue the series with Starfall. Still have and will read soon.

Ummm, I can't believe I haven't read this one yet. Victoria Schwab is life. Currently reading.

Right now...

Right now it's the end of summer. What?!
Right now I am enjoying blogging again. No pressure. No goals.
Right now I am a bit under the weather with some health concerns. Going to have to have surgery again. Boo.
Right now my boys enjoy the online game Roblox. I dislike this game.
Right now we are getting ready for the new school year.
Right now I am trying to start a book club with my local friends again. I miss meeting monthly to discuss a book.
Right now I am out of things to say so until next time...

Combining blogger posts

I started my first blog way back in 2007. In an attempt to have a "cooler" name, I have started several different blogs over the years. I always come back to Little Lovely Books though so I am slowly copying over my old blog posts from the different blogs so that they are all right here. And I am back to blogging again. I have missed it. Even if no one else reads my posts, I enjoy writing them.

If the blog looks a little wonky, you know why!

Bout of Books 20!

Bout of Books 20 is starting soon! This is tied for my favorite bookish event. I love how low key it is. Read as much as you can. No pressure.

Review: Starflight by Melissa Landers

Title: Starflight (Starflight #1)
Author: Melissa Landers
Pages: 369
Rating: 4/5

Starflight is the first book in a duology. I had picked this up when it was first released but had others that I found more entertaining so I put it down. I wish that I had given it a chance because it was a really great read!

I enjoyed the characters even if I didn't like all the characters. They were well rounded and had growth during the book. I love when authors allow their flawed characters to grow. The dialogue was believable. The romance was not instalove and I enjoyed how it developed. The witty banter and sarcasm from the crew was fun.

Although a couple of points dragged for me, mostly this was an action packed outerspace ride!

Reading Slumps

I have been in a months long reading slump. I am unsure what caused it but for some reason, I was unable to shake this one for the longest time.

The summer was full to the brim, just not with books. My boys have a week before they go back to school. I am not sure how that is even possible! It went be so fast.

I finished a book this weekend and am reading another now so I am hoping that my slump is over.
