I first started a blog years ago but didn't start a books only blog until late last year. I'm currently just trying to learn as much as I can. There is lots of talk about "finding your voice" when doing reviews and I'm still trying to. I tend to write more formally than I talk. I'm trying to write a bit more like I talk. Being myself will help people to decide if they want to follow my blog.
I've been trying to interact more on Twitter (@littlelovelybks) and it makes my day when I see that I have a new interaction on there. The whole thing makes me think a bit of high school though...I want to sit at the "cool" table but I don't have the guts to ask. When I *do* jump in to conversations, everyone is so nice though.
I read so widely that there isn't much I don't like. I'm not big on contemporary adult romance and I don't read anything with demons but other than that, I like most everything. My heart skips a beat for dystopian, zombies, fairy tales and retellings, sci fi and fantasy. So I like many, many genres.
The "cool kids table" can be so intimidating! It's funny because it's really not like the cool kid's table, at least in my experience, because people are always willing to talk to me & form relationships, but I FEEL like it's the cool kids table and I'll be ostracized mercilessly. Though it's not true, it can be hard to get over those insecurities.
ReplyDeleteI get really excited when someone responds to something I say on Twitter. I think it is a universal feeling. You put something out there and it's just nice be acknowledged.

YES! I also feel like this is high school. I've always wanted to be cool, and I thought that being a part of the book blogging community would be a surefire way of getting to sit at the cool table. But I'm still afraid to make that impressive step towards stardom.

I love all genres, as long as the story and characters are enjoyable!
Finding one's voice can be so hard! It's fun though, when you get to that point and it clearly comes through. It's what makes us each unique and fun to 'hang around' with.
ReplyDeleteI totally get the high school feeling too....I'm 37, so why the heck does it even matter?! But yeah...it's so there. Luckily, most of the book bloggers are amazing and willing to talk books with anyone!
I like a lot of different genres too!
ReplyDeleteI like all genres, especially contemporary (ya and adult both). I also like dysptopian, and I'm starting to like post-apocalyptic a LOT (Angelfall, The 5th Wave, Gone series)
ReplyDeleteI like Twitter, but I think I'm not using it as much as I should/other bloggers do... I just don't have the time to be on it all the time :(
The 5th Wave is getting great reviews. I haven't been interested in Angelfall but you're another one of my favorite bloggers that love it. Will have to give it a try!
