Armchair BEA Giveaway Day + Literary Fiction

Today's Armchair BEA topic is literary fiction. Now that I have a book blog I've been reading more YA books. They are enternaining but most importantly, they are quick reads. Quick reads = more reviews. I am a slow reader as it is so literary fiction takes even longer...I like to savor the words. I have quite a few literary books on my TBR but I haven't gotten to them yet. The last book I read that I'd consider literary was The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman.

What's your favorite? Know of a book that I've just got to read? Suggest it on my Worth the Read feature here.

Today is also Giveaway day! I'm giving one winner their book of choice from The Book Depository. Up to $15 value. Just enter on the Rafflecopter below. Winner will be notified by email and has 48 hours to respond before a new winner is chosen. Contest is open internationally as long as TBD ships to your country.

  3. Thanks for hosting the giveaway! I tend to read quite a bit of literary fiction but I enjoy LF that incorporates genre. Maybe it's a magical realism twist, for instance. Good stuff! Glad to have found your blog.

  7. It really depends on the book for me too. The biggest thing with them is that they usually are so much slower reading for me.

    1. The only reason I read it was because a friend wanted to do a read-a-long of it. It was really good but I probably wouldn't have gotten around to reading it so soon.

  9. That is the main reason I have been so focused on YA books lately. I love how fast they are! It makes them a lot more enjoyable for me!

    1. I think that is why they are so popular with book bloggers. They are fast reads but are still so enjoyable!

  10. I mostly read sci-fi and fantasy novels, and I've found a lot of them to be more "literary" than some of the literary fiction I've read. Then again, it's such an arbitrary category, and one I think that was largely made up by marketers.

    1. Good point! Some of them are. I never really thought I was a sci-fi or fantasy fan but the more I read of them, the more I enjoy them. And yes, it is so subjective...not a true definition out there in my opinion.

  11. I just bought this book. Not sure when I will actually get to read it tho since I bought about 10 others in the space of two days.

  12. Literary fiction... Oh, I just read The Great Gatsby and it was quite good :) I'd recommend it, if you haven't read it already (it's a short book)
The Light Between Oceans sounds interesting. I'll have to check it out!

  13. I'm actually reading The Light Between Oceans right now. I usually read YA dystopian. Am only reading it because the publisher sent me a copy.

    Cheers!

    1. Lucky you! It was well written with a great story. I enjoyed it quite a lot and glad that my friend asked me to read it with her. YA dystopian is one of the very favorite sub-genres. You'll have to recommend some of your favorites to me some time!
