Revisiting My Favorites

I've been thinking quite a bit about the books that I'd like to re-read. Though I've never been really big on re-reading books, there are some that I do like to read again. I've read the Harry Potter series several times. In high school there was a Danielle Steele (gasp!) book that I read every Spring Break at the beach.

Since starting my book blog, I haven't re-read any books at all. There are several reasons why I don't re-read:

1. There are literally hundreds of books on my Goodreads TBR list.
2. Reading a book I already read means one less "new" book that I can read.
3. If I loved a book enough to want to read it again, I fear that I won't like it as much the second time. That would crush my little bookish heart.
4. I tend to push aside books I've already read for the stack of shiny new covers.

There are books that I have really been thinking about though. And summer seems like such a great time to revisit some of my favorites. The longer days and slower pace. Staying up later. It being too hot to do anything else ;-)

My list to revisit:

The Harry Potter books
The Hunger Games trilogy
Slammerkin
Jane Eyre
Howard's End is on the Landing

I think that I'm going to spend June, July and August revisiting some of my favorite stories.

  1. Totally understand this. I've re read like 2 books since I joined GR...I seem to buy books I've already read though..... Book Blogger Issues/:

    1. I don't buy many books...another side effect of not re-reading books much. There are always books that I wish I had on my shelves though. This summer I really am going to re-read some of my favorites and I'm actually looking forward to it!

  2. I love re-reading, despite the fact that my TBR-pile (and wishlist) are huge. It's sometimes so much fun to return to a world you once loved. I've re-read HP many, many times and I get excited every time :D

    1. HP is going to be my first re-read. I've read it several times and always love it. I think that I would enjoy re-reading if I could stop from thinking about the fact that I can't read a "new" book instead...read one or the other and not both, you know?

  3. I'd have to say the biggest reason I don't reread as much as I'd like to is the time factor. Like you, my TBR list is huge and there are always new books coming out. This year there are a lot of sequels I'm waiting for, and while I'd love to refresh my memory on the first books, that just isn't going to happen. Hope you have fun revisiting some of your favorites this summer!

    1. There are tons of sequels coming out that I'm looking forward to as well. I don't normally re-read the first ones but I am re-reading Shadow and Bone before the second one comes out. I hope I love it as much the 2nd time as I did the first.

  4. I used to read the Count of Monte Cristo every summer :) But I haven't done much re-reading since I started blogging ... :(
Jane Eyre - LOVE that book!!
    Happy (re-)reading! :)

    1. I have never read that one. It's terrible how few classics I've read. I always say that I'm going to read more of them but all the shiny covers of the new releases change my mind. Blogging books does change things for sure. You are more aware of what you read so that you can have "enough" reviews. I loved Jane Eyre too. We studied it in a college class and I fell even more in love with it. Thanks! I'm hoping to read several of them throughout those 3 months. I don't want to read nothing but books I've already read but do hope to get to quite a few of them!

  5. Great list! I am also 're-reading' less. However, I make an exception with series that I love. Whenever a new book comes out in that series I will begin with the 1st all over again. :)

  6. I love Goodreads! I visit it like hundred times every day :D I love to see what other people read. I tbr pile is huge, too. I rarely re-read book though.

    1. I love Goodreads too. I like to see people's ratings. Especially those who usually think the same way about books as I do. My TBR list is insane but if I hear of a book that I don't want to forget about, it goes on the TBR shelf. I love being able to see all the covers!

  7. I am a huge rereader. I love to revisit worlds and characters that I fell in love with. Even some that I wasn't crazy about, sometimes. I have a tendency to reread book 1 when book 2 comes out, and then book 2 when 3 comes out. I am a weirdo, but man I love to read! Especially Harry Potter. He is a once a year reread for me!

    1. HP is on the top of the list to re-read. Sometimes I wish I could read it again for the 1st time. Thinking that I'll read it out loud to my boys this summer too. I want them to continue to love to read as they get older. Nothing weird about wanting to re-read the previous book in a series...I sometimes forget so much that I should too!
