My System to Organize Bloglovin'

Since the demise of Google Reader, I've searched for an acceptable replacement and Bloglovin' seems to be the best fit for me. I wish I were able to read the post right in the reader instead of visiting the actual blog post but it does make commenting more likely and commenting is good. Comments make the blog world go round and are a great way to accomplish the goal of blogging for me...interacting with other book lovers.

Because time is limited I've been tweaking the way I organize my Bloglovin' subscriptions to maximize the number of blogs I can get read. I use the folders feature to categorize them all out. I categorize them in different ways such as one for food, parenting, scrapbooking, entrepreneurship/reselling, etc. The book ones are broken down even further and this is the best time saver for me.

I have Book FAVORITES that includes those blogs that I want to read every single time there is a new post. These are also the blogs that I comment on the most often. In other words, these are the best of the best. My book blogger BFFs.

Next is Book WATCHING. These are blogs that I think I'll end up loving and moving to FAVORITES but these are not quite the cream of the crop yet. I don't mind going a day or two between reading these but I don't want to miss them either. I tend to think of these as important but not urgent.

I set up genre specific ones for the blogs that are really specialized. I don't read many romance novels, for instance, but have found some awesome blogs that do nothing but review romance and erotica. If I'm in the mood for a specific type of book, I can check these folders and find a great recommendation.

I also have a CONTEST AND FEATURE FOLLOW folder. These are blogs that I followed for entries into a contest or followed in a Feature and Follow Friday post that I like but am not familiar enough with yet to know how to categorize them. If they are very genre specific, they immediately go in that genre folder but if they are all over the place like my blog is, I put them here to make sure they are something I really want to keep.

As soon as I add a new blog to my Bloglovin' feed, I add it to a folder. It's super simple but keeps me organized. When you follow as many blogs - books or not - as I do, there has to be a way to keep the top ones at the top without losing out on the other great blogs too.

I hope this was of some help to one of my readers. Am I the only one who is insane about following blogs and a bit OCD about organizing them? Tell me I'm not....please?

  1. I actually think your organization system would be quite handy. I've actually moved to Feedly after realizing that BlogLovin' was updating some of my favorite blog's feeds, but even there haven't set up a folder system. I usually just scan through every single post that pops up in a day to determine if I want to read or not. I've never thought about doing it just by the type of blog or how much I love it. Might have to consider that!

    1. I tried Feedly but I couldn't ever get it to work for me. I follow so many blogs that there is no way I can scan all the posts. Having the folders lets me just scan the top ones and get the others as I have time. I'm still tweaking my system.

  2. I need to do something like this!! Mainly just because I follow so many blogs, the only thing that bums me out about Bloglovin is that the folders don't seem to transfer in the iOS app, so when I'm reading on my iphone/ipad, it's all one big jumble anyway - which keeps me from really diving it and getting it all organized. :/

    1. I just downloaded the Droid app for Bloglovin but haven't used it yet. I know that when I look at it on the browser on my phone it jumbles it all up but I'm mostly looking at it on my computer thankfully.

  3. That's a great system for organizing your feed reader. I went with Feedly upon the announcement of Google Reader's demise, simply because it looks and feels the most like Google Reader, to me, and I'm horrible with technological change.

Right now I have an "Everyday" folder of book blogs that I keep up with on the most diligent basis, and then many others in a Blogger Following folder (Google Friend Connect, some crossover).

    1. I must be looking at Feedbly the wrong way then. I wish I could find something that looks just like Reader and that I don't have to click onto the blog itself. Still working on organizing and tweaking but it's helping a whole lot!

  4. That's a great way for organizing! I keep it simple with one map called 'favorite blogs' I really like Bloglovin' :)
