My former mother-in-law loved Joyce Meyer so I disliked her...on principle. But once I listened to her and actually heard what she had to say, I found myself liking her too.

This was a typical Meyer book in the sense that she repeats alot of her Joyce-isms but in a way that is comforting to me. I usually don't enjoy repetition but in this case, it feels like I'm visiting with an old friend. Meyer's books are ones that I always want to read again because I can get something new out of it.

She gives many Biblically based ways to make and break habits...from the simplest to the most serious addictions. I enjoyed her personal perspective on habits as well. She knows that she makes mistakes and she acknowledges them. This is definitely intended for a believer in God but I personally think there is alot for the non believer as well.

I wrote down quite a few quotes but some of my favorites are:

God will help us get where we are going, but He can't drive a parked car.

Or

People brag about living in the fast lane of life, but truthfully that is where all the wrecks take place.

I love the different habits she suggests we develop such as the habit of excellence, choosing the right thoughts, doing your best, being generous, not being in a hurry and more. It is not just about getting rid of bad habits but also starting good ones. Habits are developed through repetition and bad habits are made through repeatedly NOT doing something. I enjoy books that remind me of the basics of life.

Making up our minds to be happy is one of my favorite ones. She gives the statistic that kids laugh more than 150 times and adults only 4 to 8 times a day. That's staggering and laughter really is the best medicine!

I'd recommend this book to any fans of Joyce Meyer or for those who are struggling to make their lives what they want and know it can be. It's an excellent read.
