The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith - Thoughts

Title: The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight

Author: Jennifer E. Smith
Pages: 236
Genre: YA, contemporary, romance

The synopsis of a young man and young woman who meet and fall for each other, told over a 24 hour period, doesn't really sound like my kind of book. But I wanted to hug this book when I was done. I was afraid of a major case of insta-love, which I don't like, but I got a well developed  and believable process of falling for each other instead. The romance was believable and I found myself rooting for the characters.

The characters were great. The dialogue was great. The setting - an airport and then a plane - was wonderful and unique. Although there were parts that made me extremely uncomfortable because of my personal life experience, overall I loved this book.

The writing flowed so well and her turn of words was amazing. A couple of my favorite quotes:

He's like a song she can't get out of her head (page 11)
Or

"It's not supposed to," Mom said with a smile. "Love is the strangest, most illogical thing in the world." (page 165)
I keep saying that I'm not big on YA contemporaries but I've been enjoying all the ones that I've read.  I'd recommend this one to anyone who enjoys well thought out, likeable characters and YA with romance.

Your turn...have you heard of this one? Read it? Loved it or not?

  1. I'm not such a fan of contemporary either, so the fact that you liked it makes me curious to pick it up :) I'm sometimes in the mood for something sweet and easy.

    1. I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed this one because I don't usually like contemporary novels...I like to escape to another world from my own. But I hugged it at the end. Made my heart happy! If you try it, you'll have to Tweet at me or email me to let me know what you think!

  2. I loved THE STATISTICAL PROBABILITY OF LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT! The character development was great, especially considering it takes place over such a short period of time. I've heard that Jennifer E. Smith's next book (THIS IS WHAT HAPPY LOOKS LIKE)is good, so I'm excited to read it as well.

    1. I've heard great things about This is What Happy Looks Like and I will definitely be picking it up now. I was a bit nervous about reading this book because it was a contemporary but especially because it happens over such a short amount of time but she did a fantastic job on the characters and the build up. So great!
