Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi - Thoughts

Title: Unravel Me (Shatter Me #2) (Goodreads)
Author: Tahereh Mafi
Pages: 461
Genre: YA, Dystopian
Rating: Awesome!

I finished the first book in this series (Goodreads) on December 31st of last year. It's how I rang in the new year, pretty much. I really enjoyed it and couldn't wait to read this second in the series.

Juliette is living and training at Omega Point. Adam is learning things about himself and is adjusting to his new life. The Reestablishment isn't going anywhere but will a war really happen? Warner is still hunting Juliette and will stop at nothing to find her. And Kenji is more of a focus this time around. I adore him. He's one of the best characters in the book. Hot, funny and loyal besides being incredibly talented and smart.

First, the cover. To die for. Such a great cover and I am so glad they redesigned the first one too. I like the redesign much better!

Writing style: I love the way they are written. The cross outs and repetition shows where Juliette's mind is. She is well developed as a character and we get to know her even more in this book. I wish she would stop with all the whining and wondering if she is a "monster" though. Give it a rest already!

I know that some readers have jumped ship from "Team Adam" to "Team Warner" and as glad as I am to see a bit into Warner's past, I am just not sold. Sorry. Adam tries so hard and he puts up with so much from Juliette that I kind of want to shake him.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys dystopian and romance. The romance was pretty heavy in this one. Well written, great characters and Kenji. Have I mentioned him?

Your turn...have you read this? What did you think?

  1. I enjoyed UNRAVEL ME too and felt exactly the same as you on several points. Kenji is such a fun character, and I loved that he had no problem putting Juliette in her place when she needed it--which was often. I'm sticking with Team Adam too. While I sympathize with Warner and understand why he turned out the way he did, he's a borderline sociopath. Not great love interest material if you ask me. I can't wait for the third book in this trilogy!

  2. Your comment was better than my whole review, Erin! LOL. I wish that Kenji had an even bigger part. He was fantastic. Warner sounds quite nice looking but gah...all the rest? Yikes. Looking forward to the third book too. Hope I'm not terribly disappointed by the ending!
